Manila Fire Department - Safety is Paramount
Monthly Fire Meeting - The meeting for January is scheduled for January 10th at 6:00 P.M. The agenda will be consumed with the move into our new station. By meeting time the station may be completed and accepted as final construction by Manila. The chore then confronted is gathering up our equipment, moving into the new building and getting the place in order. All available hands will be needed. Fire trucks will be considered as first items to move.
Training - In house training will be the focus when Manila Fire is housed in the new building. We will have the room and equipment to use training films and even invite trainers from out of the County to participate. We will also have the capabilities to maintain extensive training records.
End of Year Fire Fighters Dinner - The December 13th event was very successful. Those in attendance enjoyed an excellent sirloin steak dinner prepared by chefs Force and Ferrin. Congratulations to Captain Greg Scott for being selected “Fire Fighter of the Year for 2011”. For those who were not able to attend; you were missed.
The Year 2011 - The Manila Fire Department experienced a year of no loss of life and minimal property damage in calls for emergency response. Our personnel performed as a team at the calls we did respond to and should be proud of their abilities. Training and the concept of teamwork paid off. Thanks for a job well done. The citizens of our response area benefited by your presence.

Re: Fireworks and 4th of July
Dear Rick,
We all know the popularity of fireworks during this particularly holiday. It is also a fact that they are extremely dangerous and prohibited by State and local laws. This is intended to discuss a cooperative effort to ensure that the use does not result if property loss, injury or death.
As Mayor and Fire Chief I am aware of your department’s effort in prevention and enforcement during this significant holiday. It is also apparent that extensive rains have promoted excessive growth of vegetation throughout the area. These elements combine to make the potential for serious consequences when fireworks, unsupervised use, a careless attitude, and sometimes alcohol are involved. My concern is the same as yours. Fun and recreation is in order for this holiday but should not include emergency calls, fire danger, property damage, or injury. Subsequently, I ask your input regarding a proposal.
You will have available personnel on patrol and I assume that includes Manila. The fire department would be interested in participating with a preventive effort particularly on the 4th. Would it be possible for this intervention to include a coordination of effort between deputies and fire personnel? If one of your units were called to the scene of significant fire danger caused by the use of illegal fireworks and unresponsive citizens, the result could be the prevention of a serious incident. Please let me have your input and suggestions in a timely manner so that we may coordinate our efforts. The Manila Fire Department has a meeting on June 22nd at 6:00 P.M. and this could be a subject for discussion.
Sincerely,
Chuck Dickison, Mayor
