Manila Senior Advisory Committee
Re: Member Status
Dear Committee Member,
The following will discuss a Council decision regarding the Senior Advisory Committee. It will also review the desired focus of the Senior Program and its current status.
Traditionally the Senior Citizens Program has followed the scope intended for all programs within the State of Utah. The exception is that this is the only program not contracted with a County Government. Manila budgets significant funding above the mandatory match amount just to ensure a quality program where all seniors have had access to a hot meal designed to meet the parameters of health set by the State. It also has been a program where participants can anticipate companionship and a feeling of welcome.
The Council has expended extensive effort to work with the Senior Advisory Committee within the guidelines of the State program. Two Council members and the designated Aging Director of Manila have spent many hours monthly with this task. This effort has resulted in an impasse which now threatens the cohesiveness of the Senior program and the ability to sustain a Center where all seniors willingly participate.
Therefore, the Council has voted to dismiss the current Manila Senior Advisory Committee in its entirety and select a similar committee at a later date when most beneficial for the program. The Council thanks the members of the Advisory Committee who have worked to make our senior program a good one. Please turn in to Andrea all keys, checkbooks, and committee related materials. Also we urge you to continue to participate in the program; your effort as a volunteer would also be beneficial and great help.
Sincerely,
Manila Town Council
