January 2012 Town Newsletter

Holiday office closures: The Manila office and Landfill will be closed for the New Years Holiday on January 2nd.  Both will reopen on January 3rd and curbside pick up will be accomplished in Manila that day.  The same will hold true for the Dr. King Day Holiday on January 16th.  Curbside pick up of household waste will be on Tuesday January 17th; the landfill will be open.

Christmas Tree pick up: If you would like Manila to pick up your discarded tree on January 10th, cut it in half and leave it next to your household trash.

Delinquent utilities account: Some of our water/sewer/trash monthly customers have chosen to ignore requests for payment.  The Town cannot afford this to continue and it is not fair to the rest of us who pay our bill.  Subsequently, Manila will increase the effort to collect overdue utility bills with the assistance of a collection agency and if necessary a lien against property. Loss of water service is also a possibility. If you have an outstanding bill, contact Lynette at 435-784-3143 and discuss payment.

Manila Fire Department: The department will be moving into our new building in January 2012.  The process will be considerable with the volume of equipment inclusive of personnel protective gear, spare equipment, and fire apparatus.  Once the move is complete and the building is ship shape, we anticipate an open house with a flag dedication by the scouts, and other public activities.

Thanks: The Council and I appreciate your patience during the past two years while Manila Water has done millions of dollars in infrastructure construction.  We know you have experienced disruptions in service and it is our sincere wish that the result will be a State of the Art water system.

Firefighter of the Year: Captain Greg Scott was honored at the December 13th annual banquet as the fire fighter of year for 2011.  The selection was made by his fellow firefighters and fire administration.  Congratulations!

See you in Manila,

Chuck Dickison
Town Mayor

MANILA ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
DECEMBER 4TH, SATURDAY, 6:00 p.m.
SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER

Once again the Christmas Holiday approaches.  This brings us to the annual Manila Christmas Tree lighting get together where the Council designated official Christmas Tree brightens the evening darkness to signify the beginning of the holiday season.  It also provides the community families and friends the opportunity to enjoy an evening of fellowship and celebration of this most significant of holidays.

The evening will include sharing hot chocolate and homemade cookies along with the ability to enjoy traditional Christmas songs.   I have it on good authority that “SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN.”  He will arrive on one of the Manila Fire trucks and spend time with the children in attendance while receiving their wishes for Christmas.  Adults are also welcome to visit with Santa.

Please consider this your personal invitation from the Manila Mayor and Council to attend this annual affair.  It is our wish that you and yours have the very best of Christmas Holidays and are able to come help start this season of 2010 by participating on this Saturday December evening.
